Eat Drink RI Festival

You don’t often see Rhode Island’s great farmers, vendors and restaurants all under one roof. The annual Eat Drink RI Festival is a food lover’s dream, and I was lucky to attend the 6th annual Grand Tasting, the last of four culinary events over the course of three days. From locally produced beer, wine and whiskey to locally grown and produced food and even cooking demonstrations, the festival had it all!

The festival is organized by the founder of Eat Drink RI, David Dadekian, who is also a member of my Food First Advisory Committee. It helps connect the public with Rhode Island’s talented chefs, farmers and producers and is a great way to showcase our ever-growing food economy.

Many other members of my Food First Advisory Committee participated in the festival, including The Backyard Food Company, which was showcasing its new line of salsas. My personal favorite was the chipotle salsa — it tastes super fresh; slightly spicy and smoky; and oh-so delicious. Another committee member, Robin Squibb, offered samples of her refreshing sweetened Granny Squibb iced tea, which I couldn’t resist!

Rhode Island is filled with award-winning restaurants, chefs and cooking talent, and I enjoy celebrating their success as often as I can. I’m thankful to Eat Drink RI for highlighting our amazing food economy and supporting its growth, and I look forward to next year’s Festival!
