Serving our Seniors

Seniors have unique needs that deserve our attention, including the need to protect Social Security and Medicare. These topics, and others, came up during two outreach events I hosted in South County with local seniors.

I got the day started with my “It’s All About Seniors” town hall meeting at Brookdale South Bay, a senior living community offering independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing care in South Kingstown. I kicked off the meeting by providing a legislative update from Washington and then held a Q&A session.

Following the town hall, I traveled just down the road to the South Kingstown Senior Center for a more informal lunch event. It was great to move from one table to the next to chat with seniors about the issues on their minds. I find that this type of setting can provide for a more candid conversation, and it gives me the chance to hear from folks who may otherwise be uncomfortable speaking up in front of a crowd.

I always enjoy the time I spend with our senior community, and I am committed to staying engaged and fighting for the issues that are important to them.
