Second Chapter

From Federal Career Executive to MLM Entrepreneur

I have loved my career in the Federal Government. I’ve loved it with a passion for public service and the mission of my agency. Pride for my work has carried me though the past 29 years. It gave me a sense of purpose, accomplishment and contribution. So, why I am departing from the cultural norm of retiring from Federal Service and pursuing similar work in private industry? That is what I hope to explore over the next several years.

You see, I am neither eligible for retirement nor am I firmly established in my MLM business. I have nearly 7 years left in government. I only started my business 7 months ago. I’ve had significant success in starting my business, but I still have to balance this with my career work which takes precedence.

Friends an co-workers think I am crazy. Why wouldn’t I do what others have done and sought lucritive second careers by leveraging my years of experience?

My answer is that I embrace the idea of being independent after 30 years of service. I want my own hours and to work where and when I see fit. I want to do something that uses a different set of skills that I possess. I will still apply many of the leadership and personal skills I have developed through out the years, but this time….in a much different way. I know I can do well in my pursuit of having my own business through the MLM model. After only 7 months I have demonstrated such. I can take this to the top and have fun doing it.

Am I crazy? I think time will tell. But my bet is on me!
