Flowstate is a New and Unique Writing App For iOS.
It’s also an experience straight out of a writer’s worse nightmare.
The Premise is simple. You set a timer and for 5, 15 or 30 minutes. Then you start writing. If at any point you stop typing for 5 seconds, everything you’ve writen so far gets deleted. Gone forever.
You might ask why one might inflect that kind of torment on themselves. Well there’s something about the urgency that forces you to keep typing. There’s no time to overthink or nitpick you just have to keep moving. What you end up with is far more stream of conscousness perhaps compared to your normal writing but it gets the juices flowing and it puts words on paper (Or Pixel?)
There’s also something about knowing you might end up losing it that is freeing in a weird way. For me it places the value the process of writing more than the results.
The price is a little steep. At $9.99 for the iOS version and $14.99 for the Mac, it’s definitely not a throwaway purchase. But I’m more than satisfied with it. The design is beautiful and it also can be used as a minimalist text editor as well. I’d definitely recommend it for writers and other artists or masochists.
