In addition to overseeing real estate development companies 2007 Carson St., LLC, and 3 Leaf Realty, Joe Nuzzolo is the founder of the Salvador Dali Society. In overseeing the Torrance, California-based gallery, Joe Nuzzolo seeks to inspire appreciation for Dali’s works and frequently partners with museums, such as the Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG), to curate exhibits.

Recently, the WAG launched Dali Up Close, an exhibit that delves into the basis for Salvador Dali’s historic artistic genius. In part through its inclusion of two works on canvas from Dali’s surrealist and later classical periods, the exhibit highlights Dali’s use of surprising juxtaposition to create impactful surrealist landscapes. The primary focal point of Dali Up Close, however, is his 1949 painting Madonna of Port Lligat, which is known as the inaugural piece in his “nuclear mysticism” period.

The exhibit also extends into Dali’s photography, which exhibits his mastery of self-image and self-promotion while remaining an artistic spectacle in and of itself. The exhibition showcases approximately 30 photographs composed in partnership with Philippe Halsman in the 1950s, offering an intriguing preview to the pop and contemporary performance art movements that would follow. In addition, it includes a number of unique pieces created by Dali for a variety of purposes, including conceptual film artwork and an illustrated edition of Macbeth.
