The Fluff Factor

“To truly have meaning in THIS world, you first need to find what’s meaningful in YOUR world…”
“If you find yourself feeling that you haven’t TRULY lived, then start by asking one simple question. Why not?”
“Some say I laugh to much. Others claim I don’t laugh enough. To all of them I just laugh.”
Looking at Twitter you are sure to find motivational, thought-provoking or other ulterior motivated quotes that read as poetic life altering proverbs. But, if you step back and look at who wrote them, what they are trying to accomplish, and what the saying really means; you typically find:
- The sayings usually are stating something pretty obvious, conveying a vague thought or idea, or sometimes not saying anything at all.
- They are usually geared toward some motivational mantra that supports someone’s latest Motivational, Self-(Improvement, Help, Actualization, etc…) book and/or seminar; or even more entertaining! The latest Multi-Level-Marketing fad. Basically: there is financial gain and calculated psychology in who and what the saying is geared towards.
- And finally (although I’m sure my list is not exhaustive), if done well it will compel the target audience to support the latent motivations behind the bumper sticker fodder.
The three “quotes” are just a few that came to my while eating a deliciously toasted Frosted Strawberry Pop-Tart. I always find eating Pop Tarts is a nice break where you can ponder life’s irrelevant truths while perusing Twitter, and today the I found myself pontificating on, “who actually writes these mindless quotes, how do they actually get into this business and could I come up with some as brilliant?”
In closing, I leave you with this:
“Know Pop-Tarts” (Preferably Frosted Strawberry)
“Know Mindless Wandering of Irrelevant Truths.”
“No Pop-Tarts”
“No delicious way to start your day.”
