Unfortunately this is the reason why I think you have to be very skeptical about seemingly “sensible” uses of privacy reducing technology. Once you approve it for “good” reasons it will ultimately slide down the slippery slope and take away more personal freedom than you envisioned. One day you may wake up and realize what you gave away but you won’t be able to get it back. This is already happening — the war on drugs, the war on terror, etc… some measures perhaps necessary but ultimately freedom reducing.
