Investigating ZeroGPT’s Accuracy: Putting ZeroGPT to the Test

The most effective way to answer crucial questions like “Is ZeroGPT accurate?” and “Is ZeroGPT reliable?” is to put it to the test. So, we did precisely that. Our examination process involved generating AI text using ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Claude and passing this to ZeroGPT to evaluate its detection ability.

We then used the Quillbot paraphraser to alter the AI text and wrote some content ourselves to determine the effect on ZeroGPT’s accuracy. Continue reading for the results.

Deducing ZeroGPT’s Accuracy Against AI-Generated Content

Initially, we tasked ChatGPT to produce a 100-word piece on “climate change.”

We present ChatGPT’s output below:

We then fed ZeroGPT this text to assess its performance:

As apparent, ZeroGPT easily discerned that this text was AI-produced.

Afterward, we repeated the exercise with Google’s Gemini, enlisting it to compose 100 words about Paris, France.

Here’s a look at Gemini’s output:

This was ZeroGPT’s assessment:

Yet again, ZeroGPT accurately detected the AI-sourced text.

We finished by having Claude craft a 100-word snippet on baseball:

Seen below is Claude’s text:

This is how ZeroGPT responded:

Once more, ZeroGPT came through, proving its effectiveness at pinpointing AI content from large AI generators.

ZeroGPT’s Accuracy Against Paraphrased Content

Next, we wanted to evaluate how well ZeroGPT handles the AI text paraphrased with Quillbot. This involved modifying the ChatGPT-derived text first.

Quillbot’s revision of the ChatGPT text is as follows:

And here’s ZeroGPT’s judgment:

Here, ZeroGPT managed to detect most sections of text as AI-generated, but Quillbot’s rephrase tricked it to a certain degree, reducing the AI text score from 100% to 71%.

Then, Quillbot paraphrased Gemini’s content:

Here’s how ZeroGPT reacted to the modified content:

As observable, there is a substantial difference between the native Gemini content and the Quillbot-paraphrased version. After Quillbot adjusted some words and sentence structures, ZeroGPT’s detection accuracy significantly dropped, recognizing only 50% of the text as AI content.

We repeated the process one last time with the Claude-derived text. Here’s Quillbot’s rendition:

And here is ZeroGPT’s reaction:

This was ZeroGPT’s poorest performance of the three. It was unable to recognize most of the text as AI-generated, showing that Quillbot can be used to bypass this tool to a certain degree.

ZeroGPT’s Accuracy Against Human Generated Content

Lastly, we created some content ourselves on similar topics.

Starting with climate change:

This is ZeroGPT’s evaluation:

ZeroGPT correctly identified this content as human-generated.

Next, we covered the subject of Paris.

Here’s how ZeroGPT assessed it:

This instance illustrates the potential unreliability of ZeroGPT and validates user dissatisfaction. Despite our text being completely human-written, and devoid of AI assistance, it got flagged as AI-generated — a clear demonstration of a “false positive.”

Finally, we wrote about “baseball.”

This is the verdict from ZeroGPT:

Regrettably, this incident presents yet another significant instance of a false positive. Despite being crafted entirely by a human, ZeroGPT mistakenly flagged the entire piece as AI-produced. This highlights that ZeroGPT, analogous to several other AI detectors, has the potential to be unreliable or overly sensitive and could falsely flag content, posing a problem for writers and content creators.

AIHumanizer: An Effective Strategy to Outsmart ZeroGPT

It is apparent from our testing that the accuracy of ZeroGPT fluctuates. Sometimes it succeeds in correctly identifying AI-written or human-written text, while other times it makes mistakes, leading to false flags. Firstly, let’s see how AIHumanizer has altered the ChatGPT text with several adjustments to its wordflow, structure, and vocabulary to give the text a more human touch.

This is the outcome of AIHumanizer’s amendments to the ChatGPT text:

Next, we review how AIHumanizer modified the Gemini text:

Here’s ZeroGPT’s assessment of the modified sample:

Lastly, observe how AIHumanizer has transformed the Claude text, post its humanization algorithms’ application.

Here’s ZeroGPT’s interpretation of it:

Clearly, AIHumanizer rendered AI content undetectable by ZeroGPT with utmost perfection. It achieved a perfect 100% human score in all three challenges, showcasing its ability to convincingly humanize AI content to deceive this leading AI detector.

Moving forward, we took an additional step. We utilised AIHumanizer to rework the human samples which originally failed the ZeroGPT detection. We aimed to see if AIHumanizer could outperform an actual human writer to bypass ZeroGPT.

Here’s how the second human text looked after undergoing AIHumanizer’s humanization algorithm.

And here’s ZeroGPT’s response:

A flawless score. AIHumanizer was able to enhance the original human-crafted text to outsmart the detection algorithm successfully.

We proceeded with a final attempt to revamp the third human example that initially failed to beat AIHumanizer’s scans.

This is ZeroGPT’s verdict:

Again, a perfect display. AIHumanizer completely fooled ZeroGPT into believing the AI-generated text to be human-written.

Test Results Summary: Assessing ZeroGPT’s Accuracy

In conclusion, the extent of ZeroGPT’s accuracy differed in our testing, exemplified in the table below:

The above table displays the varied success rates of ZeroGPT in identifying different types of content. Though it capably identified straightforward AI-generated text, it had difficulties with content paraphrased by Quillbot. Furthermore, its response to human-authored text returned a couple of notable false positives, indicating a lack of reliability.

Thus, responding to whether ZeroGPT is accurate, the answer is complex and context-dependent.
