Sometimes you are unsatisfied with your life, while many people in this world are dreaming of living your life. A person on land sees a sailing ship and dreams of sailing, where as a person on the ship sees land and dreams of returning home.
That’s life !
Enjoy yours.
If wealth is the secret to happiness, then the rich should be dancing on the streets; but only the poor kids do that. If power ensures security, then officials should walk unguarded; but those who live simply, sleep soundly. If beauty and fame bring the best relationships, then celebrities should have the best marriages.
Maybe we all have a lot of soul mates, each for a different time in our lives. Maybe every person we ever love is a soulmate in some sense and that is why they mean so much to us; that is why they are hard to forget. People change and fall out of love, but that doesn’t meant that at one time they weren’t perfect for each other.
We know every stupid, awkward, boring, weird, shameful thought that has ever been through our heads. We know every small and big mistake we have ever made. We know every scar, pimple and wrinkle on our body. We see all this extremely close up, making these tiny imperfections look big. But it gets worse. When we look at others, the perspective is quiet the opposite. Other people tend to look more successful, more capable, more confident, better looking. In comparison, we feel that much more weird and out of place. We go through life with the very strong feeling that other people especially the people we admire are really not like us at all. And that we are strangers, putting on a fake sense of confidence. We worry that one day, we will be found out for who we really are : confused, incapable who have not figured life out at all.
All these thoughts kept running at supersonic speed through my mind. I couldn’t sleep. I lay in bed, tossing, turning, cursing. I figured if I could just follow one thought to it’s conclusion, and then another and then a third, I could untangle the mess that lives in my head and get some sleep. But it didn’t work out that way. The mess, even though it was theoretically just a jumble of shooting neurons, was a real representation of my life.
How I Turned My Life Around
After hitting rock bottom, the only way to go is up. But not everyone has to hit rock bottom to pick themselves up. There is a saying that goes :
We learn from our mistakes.
But why go through the pain of trial and error when we can learn from other people’s mistakes. Books, biographies, documentaries, podcasts, social networks all help us learn not only what to do to become successful but also what NOT to do in order to get to your goals. With a vast array of information available at our fingertips all it takes is a little patience and a lot of perseverance.
It may seem disconnected but my first step to turn my life around was to clean my surroundings. By that, I mean I started with clearing my home of all the clutter, emptying my life with people who were not part of my inner circle and emptying my mind with unnecessary thoughts and targets that were stretching me too thin to accomplish anything.
The next step was to improve myself. Being an avid reader, I took to all the best self-help books in the market but what I noticed was that the content was very repetitive. The trick here is to read the books that have stood the test of time. Books which have been written many years ago and still in print proves there are timeless values in it which apply even today and most of the new books are mainly just different versions of the same old values written many years earlier.
I took up online courses to learn new skills, I upgraded my present skills by attending workshops and keeping myself updated with the latest trends and news in my field. The best way to increase your market value is to have a good knowledge of many field. This way, you have enough data to find where these fields overlap and maybe one day, create a new niche by combining your skills from various fields to create something totally brand new.
However, in all this one must not forget about Family. We are only human, and no matter how ambitious and goal oriented we are social animals. No matter how much success one achieves, it is meaningless if they have no one to share it with. Family is essential not only to support you during your tough times, but to keep motivating you to achieve more and to give you the inner satisfaction that no amount of money can buy.
The grass isn’t always greener on the other side; it is greener where you water it.
