2017: On The Line — Week 1
HERE WE GO! Week 1 of the 2017 NFL season is upon us and that means another year of picks. Same deal as last year, I will pick games based on the spread of the individual game. I will submit my picks every Thursday before the first game of the week. I reserve the opportunity to edit my picks Sunday prior to 1:00pm because lines can change quickly with injuries or in-actives. LETS DO IT!
The lines are looked at vigorously for those trying to make some extra money or those just looking for who is favored this weekend. Before my picks each week, I will list my current win/loss and push record from the previous week with my overall season record. I present to you the Vegas line of each NFL game this week:
Week 1: 0–0–0
Overall Record: 0–0–0 (0%)
TNF: Chiefs at Patriots (-9)
Patriots (-9). Tom Brady and company are ready to come out firing on all cylinders as they head towards a potential repeat title.
Jets at Bills (-8.5)
Bills (-8.5). The Jets are a dumpster fire. They are Cleveland level terrible without the hope the Browns have.
Falcons (-7) at Bears
Falcons (-7). I’ll take Matty Ice over Mike Glennon who will be anxious week one with a rookie quarterback (Mitchell Trubisky) looking over his shoulder.
Ravens at Bengals (-3)
Ravens (+3). The Bengals are a team I think underachieve this year. Without Joe Flacco, the Bengals will crawl out of week one but no.
Steelers (-8.5) at Browns
Steelers (-8.5). Pittsburgh’s big-3 trample the Browns and Kizer struggles.
Cardinals (-2) at Lions
Lions (+2). Matt Stafford starts the season with a big fourth quarter drive that puts Detroit up for good with just under 2 minutes to go.
Jaguars at Texans (-5)
Texans (-5). Both teams have solid defenses and the quarterbacks are not great. I think Blake Bortles makes more mistakes than Tom Savage.
Buccaneers at Dolphins — POSTPONED
Raiders at Titans (-2.5)
Titans (-2). Tennessee wins by a field goal because Mariotta leads a solid 2 minute drill.
Eagles (-1) at Redskins
Redskins (+1). Kirk Cousins proves why he is a franchise quarterback without his top two weapons from a year ago.
Colts at Rams (-3.5)
Rams (-3.5). New head coach Sean McVay wins in his debut and the gype machine starts going nuts…but we all know they win because the Colts are without Andrew Luck.
Seahawks at Packers (-3)
Packers (-3). For those who do not know, I picked the Packers as a Superbowl representative. This win goes a long way in giving Green Bay home field in the playoffs over the Seahawks who can also finish with a great record.
Panthers (-5.5) at 49ers
Panthers (-5.5). New Panther Christian McCaffrey scores twice and ruins Kyle Shanahan’s home debut as San Francisco’s head coach.
SNF: Giants at Cowboys (-4)
Cowboys (-4). Zeke is playing so the Cowboys win — simple as pie. The next 7 weeks though will prove to be tough without the star running back.
MNF: Saints at Vikings (-3.5)
Vikings (-3.5). Dalvin Cook wants to at least match McCaffrey’s line from Sunday and he leads the Vikings to the week one win.
MNF: Chargers at Broncos (-3.5)
Chargers (+3.5). I am high on the Chargers this year. Another year of Rivers with all of his targets and another year of production from Melvin Gordon makes the Chargers competitive all year long with their improving defense led by Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram. Are they a playoff team? Check my NFL Preview.
