365 Days Of Code: Day 5

Getting Flexible

Today, I learnt more about Flexbox. Well I sort of grasped it. As far as I’m aware they act like media queries somewhat in that they change depending on your device’s screensize, but they give you even greater control over how the elements react when the screen size changes. I’m guessing it’s a more detailed, comprehensive way of making your page responsive than using simple Bootstrap?

I used CSS Tricks and W3Schools articles on flexbox and created a codepen to test out various aspects of it. Personally, I don’t see much use in using flexbox over simple bootstrap. I feel like I may be missing the boat on something here that I haven’t picked up on yet. I feel like I need to give flexbox another day or so of study to fully grasp it.

Since today had a limited window for study (2 hours-ish) I decided to watch some videos whilst commuting. Specifically this video of someone completing the official react tutorial of facebook and this video of someone creating the Pomodoro clock challenge on Free Code Camp. I’ve already completed the clock, but I’m not 100% on it. I feel as if watching other’s more experienced than me will help me become a better coder, it was how I got better at games such as Football Manager and Europa Universalis by watching others on youtube, so hey it’s a proven method of learning for me.

This is SASS right?

Tomorrow morning will be the only window I have of study, so I’m hoping to get through some more flexbox and potentially start learning SASS, which from the outside looks really good!
