leaves of grass

Sprouting alike in broad zones and narrow zones,
Growing among black folks as among white,
Kanuck, Tuckahoe, Congressman, Cuff, I give them the
same, I receive them the same. -Walt Whitman

The idea of race is meaningless to a heart surgeon and just one of the many mismeasures of man that seem to endure despite massive efforts to gather difference like fallen leaves into hidden piles so that we can all seem like grass blade to blade.

We don’t seem to value difference. And yet, difference is the only thing that makes the universe interesting.
