Critics like yourself expend so much effort dissecting Trump’s words and supposed policies. Is it possible that none of this “phenomenon” is about Donald Trump the man and politician or any of the ideas he espouses? Is not the much more relevant question people like you should be asking is who in their right mind supports Trump’s candidacy? Dismissing his supporters as no more than disgruntled old poor white guys is as much a racist stereotype as Trump’s supposed policies.

The secret is that Trump’s supporters are not inherently supporting him, and in many ways these believers have no expectation that most of his policy ideas will ever see the light of day. Instead his supporters are rejecting the establishment status quo, including the news media, the political parties and even the educational establishment, which is why all these groups have united against him like nothing I have seen in my lifetime. Were Trump to ever be elected (which is somewhat improbable given the huge array of his political enemies) establishment powers (political parties, news media, the current universe of politically connected) might quickly and totally lose their lofty social position, hence the current fight to the death they are now putting up. Some of Trump’s biggest critics fear the very existence of his taboo message, even more than the man himself. Finally whether right or wrong, Trump has the audacity (or stupidity) to say some things that are universally said (or thought) privately, yet no one in public life has ever had the courage to utter the same. Such audacity breeds a lot of the respect he commands, even from me.
