Bending The Moral Arc of the Gig Economy
David Robinson

It was equally amusing and terrifying to discover that to build it’s political outreach team, Airbnb had hired all the people who worked at the grassroots level on Obama’s campaign. Not to say these people aren’t principled. There’s surely a lot of overlap in values. But the term ‘mercenary’ did cross my mind as I thought of a whole herd of people, suddenly finding themselves without work and being rounded up wholesale and given a new mission. I doubt many of them took too much time to think about the underlying issues. I can imagine it would be easy to just think, grass-roots=good, and any impact on policy and regulation is a win. But the potential for unintended consequences is huge.
