“Good copy is identified the same way, unless it’s split tested.” — Exactly.
As a sales copywriter, that is the only thing that matters to me. I think anyone who calls themselves a copywriter, and doesn’t split test is full of shit, and should not be trusted within 100 yards of your wallet. (Unless you hate money)
Now, on the other hand, if you create content, then that’s fine. Write away, attack ideas, ruminate, obsess, explore and be as wordy as you want. The only thing that matters in that case is getting the reader engaged.
It’s a distinction I try to make in my mind, and with my clients, content is the education and copy is the invitation.
