Here’s to 2018…
No doubt, 2017 has been a great year. I’ve learnt an incredible amount, particularly in the last 3 months, which encourages that 2018 has the potential to be even better.
Technology, in general, is advancing more swiftly than ever before. It’s absolutely vital that we, as humans, maintain our own evolution, away from our apps and devices. This begins with communication.
Each and every day, in our business and personal lives, we face decisions about how we engage with clients, colleagues, friends, family, and strangers.
We can all take responsibility for ensuring that the year ahead is more productive, successful and fulfilling, simply by committing to improve the way in which we communicate with one another.
For me, it’s about recognising the opportunity in each new dialogue, and consciously investing.
Whether it’s taking more time to ensure you’re providing genuine value in every correspondence; finding the confidence to face up to particularly challenging discussions; or simply remembering our “please’s” and “thank you’s”; let’s bring some pride back to the art of conversation.
Ask yourself; when is the right time to type, write, call, or meet?
Take heed of Mehrabian’s theory; that only a mere 7% of an interaction’s meaning is derived from the words themselves, whilst 38% comes from vocal inflection, and 55% from physical expression. Value the fact there are no shortcuts or substitutes to a good old fashioned tête-à-tête.
Let’s exercise greater diligence in how we connect, human-to-human. Contribute to the discussion. Share more.
Here’s to a 2018 full of rich, stimulating, memorable conversation.
Happy New Year, all!
