I suppose I’ve missed this, to a degree — mostly my experience has been one of desperately trying to defend the concept of rights against the concept of privileges. You know, the thing where “leftists” start acting like the problem is some people being treated too well, rather than other people not being treated normally.

Perhaps some of the frustration with “rights talk” derives from these rights being conceptualized solely as regarding equal access to capitalism, and usually only as they apply to American citizens?

Starting to think in terms of international human rights, and having those rights include things like food and shelter and jobs — that certainly has a lot of potential.
