The Realm of Shunga: Explore a dystopian dive of delights in Hoxton Docks

Discover a newly created world hidden from the constraints of society in London’s latest immersive event. Petersham Road’s The Realm of Shunga transports you to a futuristic dystopia — a time when all popular culture has been banished, as you’re left wandering around a forbidden labyrinth of resistant speakeasies.
Imagine the year is 2121. Art, theatre, music: any freedom of expression has been buried deep underground. All that is left is The Realm of Shunga, an illegal oasis of the weird and the wonderful, the expressive and indulgent.
Located in the heart of Hoxton Docks, here you’ll find a dirty underworld of small stages and performing outcasts, hidden bars and steaming food stalls, and the Bates Hotel Disco. Think Blade Runner meets the late night area at Glastonbury.
Food
Dining in The Realm of Shunga represents the best of innovative and delicious London street food.
The Food Circus is your ringleader. Fresh from a stint on Old Street’s The Magic Roundabout, The Food Circus specialises in healthy fare with an indulgent twist, including delicious vegetarian wraps crafted to emulate crispy duck or Lebanese lamb kofte.
Theatre
All the while you’ll experience interactive theatrics and immersive performance, courtesy of Petersham Road. Formerly Petersham Playhouse, the renowned theatre company has worked with the likes of Wilderness Festival, Village Underground and Old Vic Tunnels to produce dazzling performances within their specially created worlds.
“This is the first public event completely organised and staged by Petersham Road,” says Rosie Welch, the theatre company’s Creative Account Manager. “We’re a theatre without walls. We enrapture our audience and take them into different realms.”
The company uses a rich variety of interactive mediums and entertainment platforms to create intricate environments that capture your imagination and tantalise your every sense.
The Realm of Shunga is an adventure like no other.
