After countless hours of scouring the internet here are five unique space-themed playlists worth checking out.

*These are opinions, which are subjective, the list is meant to provide a way for readers to explore music they may not have encountered before. Enjoy!

#5 — Music for Space on SoundCloud

Chill out with some ambient smooth space themed vibes with an occasional subtle spaceship sound effect blended with relaxing music. This playlist creates an enjoyable atmosphere as you scroll through your Facebook feed in hopes of finding the newest SpaceX meme. This 21-track playlist contains music which is occasionally used during downtime or “the coasting phase” of payloads SpaceX launch webcasts.

Fun Fact: SpaceX is the first ever private company to build and launch its own rockets and space capsules to the International Space Station and return them to Earth.

4 — Space-themed Classical Music on Spotify

Be bedazzled as you listen to background music fit for the latest rendition of your favorite space movie. Whether you’re on shuffle, or listen to all 75-songs from top-to-bottom, you will find an even mixture of smooth classical music, recognizable Hollywood themes and ambient space melodies. Relax as you experience vibrant classical masterpieces by Alan Silverstri, who is best known best known for his collaboration with major hit films as the Back to the Future trilogy, Forrest Gump, and others. While there are soundtracks from hit movies in the playlist, there are also a healthy variety of tracks not from a feature film.

Fun Fact: In the movie 2001 Space Odyssey HAL 9000 never once says, “Good Morning, Dave,” despite this line being one of his most recognized quotation in pop-culture.

#3 — Space Sounds on SoundCloud

No one can hear you scream in space…because there’s no air to carry sound, but there is inside the International Space Station (ISS). Enjoy noises made by astronaut Chris Hadfield during his time aboard the space station. Yes, this is a real thing. Featured first on the playlist: “Entering the Bathroom and Starting…” Close your eyes and pretend you’re floating through the ISS from the The Functional Cargo Block (FGB) into Node 1 of the space station with this playlist which has already surpassed 44.5K listens, insane.

Fun Fact: The The Functional Cargo Block (FGB) was the first piece of the International Space Station (ISS) to be placed in orbit.

#2 The Cosmos and the Meaning of Life on 8tracks

While 8tracks recently changed their ad-based free model, they still allow 1-hour-a-week* of playlist listening time. Don’t worry in case you hit the pay-wall after an hour there is more than enough packed into this playlist to keep you perplexed and contemplating life until the listening-time resets. The playlist includes short speech segments from iconic astrophysics such as Carl Sagan and Neil deGrasse Tyson, passionate quotes from Richard Feynman and poems about the night sky. After listening to these great minds share their knowledge about the universe, you will want to take a break and let the existential crisis creep in as you contemplate their words. The speeches and quotes featured in most of the songs in the playlist are overlapped with a range of vibrant musical undertones complementing the message.

Fun Fact: Carl Sagan wasn’t a fan of the Space Shuttle Program and he didn’t shy away from talking about it. Listen to his harsh critique of the NASA program that ended in 2011 by Clicking Here.

I know 1-hour-a-day-free isn’t very long at all, good news is they offer access for only $4.99 a month (cheaper than Spotify and Pandora by a few bucks). Save a few bucks on your monthly music bill and check out their playlist listening plans here.

#1 — Space Music for Sleep on Spotify

Ignoring track names such as “Free Energy Oscillator,” “Deep Magic” and other buzz-wordy new age titles, this ambient and tranquil playlist allows for a different range of sounds and frequencies to, if nothing less, ease you into a slight daydream-daze. This playlist is great for helping unwind after a long day at work scrolling through NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) images. Don’t worry about out sleeping this 123 hour and 10-minute playlist as you doze off into unconsciousness for the night.

Fun Fact: In microgravity astronauts are weightless and can sleep in any orientation, but they have to attach their sleeping bags to the wall so they don’t float around and bump into something.
