School is mandatory. Learning is Optional
I’m relentless about learning. It’s 4am and I’ve been awake since 3.30am. I grabbed a coffee and then started reading again. Whenever I am in the car I am listening to audio books. I just love to learn.
Why?

First, I think there is something wonderful about being human and simply learning more each day. How amazing is it that we get to do this? We are not like other animals where our lives are simply governed by food and reproduction…we get to ponder, think, learn and apply that learning in important ways.
Second, I find that the more I learn the more I can help people. I cannot give people insights, ideas or suggestions if I have not first learned those myself. I can never know when a book or a video or a podcast or a new article can give me an idea that can really help another person.
Third, I think that a crucial part of a life well lived is honing your gifts. If you have a talent or ability, (and, trust me, you do) then why not keep investing in it? For example, I have done live speaking events for hundreds of thousands of people around the world. However, I am always trying to hone that skills through learning. I keep reading about speaking or about personal development. I want to make sure that whenever I speak I have something worthwhile to give.
It does not matter what your skill is, what matters is that you keep learning.
And, finally, as the quote says, learning is optional. You have the power to sit on your butt and consume mindless TV or pointless websites. I don’t do that. Sure, I have some downtime and am not reading every second of every day, but I don’t waste time when I could be learning.
Don’t waste another day. Commit to learning more. It matters. It matters because we need you to bring your best and you can’t give to the world the learning that you never did.
