Germany Shocked After Seeing Nazi Salutes to Trump

The recent far right event in Washington D.C., where the attendees were filmed giving Nazi salutes to praise Donald Trump shocked the world.

However, nowhere was the shock more resolute than in Germany. The German government expressed their disgust with such admiration.

“Speaking generally, whenever we see videos from anywhere showing people raising their hand to do Hitler salutes we are repulsed,” German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said Wednesday after being asked about the clip . “It goes against the principles and values of our politics,” he added — from Times of Israel article

Richard Spencer, head of the white-nationalist group National Policy Institute, said during the film, “Hail Trump, hail our people, hail victory!” The crowd responded with Nazi salutes.

“To be white is to be a striver, a crusader, and explorer and a conqueror. We build. We produce. We go upward,” he claimed. “Within the very blood in our veins as children of the sun lies the potential for greatness.”

Nazi Germany killed tens of millions of people during the Second World War. At that time, the German economy had yet to recover from the Great Depression as well as from the consequences of the first World War.

Such poverty is breeding grounds for racial hatred.

A popular sentiment at the time was to blame other minorities as economic competition, such as Jews. This mindset is strikingly similar to how Trump gained power. Many Trump supporters had lost their jobs to illegal aliens. Trump’s assurances to kick out illegal aliens struck a chord.

Astonishingly, Trump’s only ideas during the election were to kick out Hispanics and ban Muslims from our country. There was really no other reason to vote for him.

After the war, Germany made it a criminal offense to display Nazi imagery — including the salute, which was usually accompanied by the cry “Sieg Heil!” which translates as “hail victory.”
