We open DexWallet and Tab
- We tab “Your Private Key”
- DexWallet has a user friendly wizard that will guide us through the process.
- We tap Backup Mnemonic
We write the 12 words on paper and safely store it. The pass phrase allows us to restore our wallet in any ethereum wallet. We use mnemonic seed phrase instead of Private key as it is easier to read for humans.
We don’t store the pass phrase in any digital device as it puts our assets at risk.
Install Metamask
- We go to metamask.io
Metamask can be installed in: Chrome, Opera, Firefox and Brave. It is the most used wallet to interact with Ethereum Applications. The wallet is secure but we use cold storage to keep big amounts safer.
- We click Add to Chrome
- Get Started
- We select Import Wallet
- We type the 12 words that we wrote on paper previously (all lower case separated by a space)
- We choose a Password. It will be used to unlock our wallet.
- We are All Done
- Metamask Expand View shows immediately our holdings (ETH,MKR and DAI)
- Expand View can be found from the menu

We have 2 wallets, have we duplicated our coins?
Every transaction will be reflected on both wallets and the balance of our coins will be updated accordingly.
…Then, what is a wallet and what it does?
Wallets are an interface (software) that we use to interact with the Ethereum Network. A wallet actually doesn’t store coins. Wallets store private keys. Private keys are used to sign transactions and give permissions to allocate our coins to another address.
Can I get rid of the mnemonic phrase?
No. Despite the wallet is in 2 places at the same time, the best practice is always to keep paper duplicates on a safe place.
