Do Movie Reviews matter at all?

Recently I watched a Tamil movie called Kabali ,a film that starred one of India’s biggest stars — Rajnikanth, and felt that movie buffs give a lot of unwarranted importance to reviews( in this case, the film was initially proclaimed a flop because of its slow pace but turned out to be a box-office hit). Review sites like IMDb tend to be some kind of benchmark for some people (“ The film got a 7.5 on IMDb so it must be good”).

Some people even feel proud when their verdict matches with one of the reviewers and ridicule others who are not “as evolved as them”.Every individual has different tastes and should be bold enough to acknowledge their likes and dislikes without waiting for an external authority to endorse them. So,the next time you feel compelled to pass judgement on something, share your opinion with people who have similar tastes rather than broadcasting to the whole wide world.
