ACCEPTANCE

Acceptance is more than a word that holds heavy meaning in the world of recovery. First and foremost, in order to recover, it is a requirement to accept the fact that you struggle with addiction. Being unable to accept the life that is happening around you, happiness could be at an all-time low.
The majority of what is faced in day to day living could be a potential gateway in having to accept what is outside of your control.
“When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing, or situation — some fact of my life — unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing, happens in God’s world by mistake.” — Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, Pg. 417
Acceptance is more than just a solution to all problems of one who is recovering; it provides a peace of mind when it comes to healing in the best ways possible and it makes the transition smoother when moving forward from a ball and chain of burdens.
To think of how much time and energy that has been consumed by the actions of others, places that led to discomfort and things that were not tolerable in our eyes for our own personal reasons.
The harsh reality of being able to apply acceptance in life is having to take action in certain ways such as putting ego aside, forgiving those who have caused harm, and owning your part in a situation where it’s difficult to see where you were at fault.
It may not seem appealing to any alcoholic or drug addicted person who doesn’t know what takes place in the process of finding acceptance in life.
Getting to the bottom of the problems that trouble you is like finding a freedom that releases you from being held back in a bondage of self; it’s like having the freedom to finally be happy. Without acceptance, there is very little hope of being able to live on a day-to-day basis without running into conflict with the world and the people in it.
The importance of having acceptance is having the opportunity of focusing on what needs to be changed in you rather than everybody else. Having a different perspective on things and finding it in you to practice patience, love, and tolerance.
When it’s all said and done the way you feel deep down inside while recovering is what matters most. Being able to understand everything as the way it is proves that you are trusting the process of God’s path.
Life will throw us all experiences that are difficult to walk through, but with acceptance you will be able to hold onto serenity through it all.
