Why Quitting Your Job to Chase Your Dream Is a Terrible Idea
Jeff Goins

Great post, Jeff Goins. I quit my day job 7 months ago to publish my book, Fearless Salary Negotiation. But before I quit, I did three important things:

  1. Paid down all of my debt except my mortgage.
  2. Saved up enough to live for 15 months with no income.
  3. Wrote the book and built an audience to launch to.

While I was working, I wrote consistently, connected with people, and coached people through salary negotiations to validate what I was writing.

I only quit my job once I had to quit in order to launch my book effectively. And even with no debt and plenty of savings, it’s a slow, slow process to build the book into a business by creating related products and services.
