Thank you Camilo for responding. I didn’t know Tolstoy had been used to introduce Buddhism to the West, how interesting. And when I think about his epilogue in War And Peace I can see how that would work.
I feel I breezed over the complexities and varieties of meditation. While there are — as you point out — some types of meditation which do need an instructor, I was thinking more of the sort of meditation which is clearing the mind, letting go and relaxing, which can be achieved anywhere.
