Hearthstone on iPad

Workaround for US and impressions

This Hearthstone fanatic can’t be stopped.

I love me some Hearthstone, and I have been waiting patiently for the iPad US release. My pickle got tickled a couple of days ago when I learned that the iPad rollout had begun. Until I read the rest of the post. Sorry US — no Hearthstoney goodness on iPad for you just yet.

Put your rats and party hats away people.

Thankfully, we live in an age of miracles; a quick Google was all it took to get me Hearthstoning like I've never Hearthstoned before. Here’s how you can too:

  1. Go to your App store and scroll all the way to the bottom.
  2. Tap your Apple ID and select “View ID.” You will be prompted to enter your password.
  3. Tap Country/Region and change it to Canada, Australia, or New Zealand (I suggest Canada. No logical reason. Just a hunch.)
  4. You will be prompted to enter a payment method, address, and phone number. These MUST match the country you’ve chosen.
  5. Unless you have a Canadian credit card chillin’ in your wallet, choose “None.” This is very important! Don’t enter anything fake — that’s just shady!
  6. Enter an address and phone number for a hotel in the country you chose. You can find these pretty easily — again, age of miracles.
  7. Download Hearthstone and enjoy! You’ll get a free pack for playing your first game!

All-in-all it takes about three minutes to do the switch, and you can always switch back. I haven’t found any comment from Blizzard indicating that this is exploitative in any way. I believe you will be locked out of re-downloading your past purchases in the App store for 90 days, but dude — it’s Hearthstone on iPad. I would pay any price.

Impressions: I've played four games on my iPad 2 and it is exactly the same game that’s on PC. That’s a very good thing. There is some occasional slowdown, but that should be expected. Honestly, I can’t express the sheer joy I experienced laying in my bed last night playing Hearthstone. I think it will definitely be my preferred method of play from now on.

I plan on getting some heavy play tonight — I will update if I experience any major problems. I hope I see you out there, Hearthstoners!
