5 Keys for Success
“How Do I Become Successful?”
This is a question I have been asked several times over the last few days, and I have realized that this is likely a question that goes unasked by many, simply because they believe that they are the only ones that struggle with this. On that note, I want every single one you reading this to take a step back and think “I CAN do this.” Now say it one more time. “I CAN do this.”
Now, let’s get started.
There are five things that I have learned to keep at the forefront of my mind when thinking about success. These things have helped me progress towards my goals and are based on the lessons I’ve learned from people much farther ahead in life than myself, as well as the lessons I have learned from mistakes I have made along the way.
1. Change “I Can’t” to “I Can”
Yes. This means believing that everything is possible. And as cliché as that may sound, we MUST believe that this is true. It is not to create a false sense of hope, but instead to force us to change our perspective on the obstacles we face every day. We have to stop looking at obstacles as if they are unsolvable problems. We have to see them for what they are…minor obstacles with simple solutions. It’s incredible what occurs when we begin thinking this way. We no longer complain about the things that happen to us. Instead, we begin thinking about how to fix them and change our circumstances for the better. This is where we take our lives into our own hands and begin creating the life we have always dreamed of.
2. Know What You Want Out of Life
This may also seem cliché, but this is NECESSARY. Yes, #1 was necessary, but the reason why this point comes second is because regardless of what you want out of life, you can only get there if you believe it is possible. Mindset is everything.
The big thing here is knowing what YOU want. Not what your parents, friends, coworkers or bosses want. You. This requires taking time for yourself and auditing (thank you Gary Vaynerchuk) your life and what is truly important to you. If you take this time, and if you are brutally honest with yourself, you may be surprised at what you find.
3. Hard Work
So why is this important? It may seem obvious. And maybe that’s why so many people brush it aside. This is important because there are 7 Billion people in the world, and the likelihood that someone else wants exactly what you want is actually fairly high. The only way to ensure that you have it, is to out-work the competition — especially if you don’t know they even exist.
This is also imperative because along your journey there will be plenty of obstacles, delays, and unexpected challenges that come up. But that’s all part of the game! You have to roll with the punches and learn along the way. It’s in these moments, that the “I can” attitude, your dreams, and hard work come together.
4. Be Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable
This one is easily missed by a lot of people. Why? Because people in general look for the “easy” way to success. The minute they encounter something that is out of their comfort zone, they panic and run in the opposite direction.
First of all — running should never be allowed. Ever.
Second of all — these situations are an opportunity for you to LEARN. The classroom can’t prepare you for these things, but this is what will make you an incredible leader down the line. SO next time you find yourself in an unfamiliar place, understand that you CAN do it. So…go get it done.
This last one is BIG…
5) BE SO AFRAID OF FAILURE THAT YOU ARE FORCED TO SUCCEED
Let me explain. First, there is nothing cliché about this one. It simply means that if you are frustrated with where you are, understand that failure means you will likely remain in your current circumstance. By ingraining the previous points on your mind and refusing to accept failure, the only option that then becomes available is success. Do not allow your current circumstances to determine where you will be 10 years from now. This will be a constant source of motivation for you day in and day out. It’s easy to stay where you are. It is hard to change and progress, but I promise you will be be thankful for it later on.
I sincerely hope that you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it for you.
