Hall of Famer: Dodgers

In this series, I’ll look at each MLB team’s position player and pitcher that is the most deserving of Hall of Fame consideration. They have to be a starter or significant contributor (sorry Ichiro, I still love you).

Los Angeles Dodgers

Position Player: Chase Utley (2B)

The long-time Phillie has only one All Star appearance since 2010, so some have forgotten how good Utley was. 6 All Star games, 4 Silver Sluggers, 64.9 WAR, 257 HR, 1835 hits and more than 1,000 runs and RBI. And although he’s never won a Gold Glove, Chase did lead the league in dWAR in 2008. He’s sandwiched between Craig Biggio and Jackie Robinson in the career WAR among 2B, which is pretty good company to be in. The fact that he’s never won an MVP or been “the Guy” might be held against him, but it’s hard to argue with his longevity.

HOF Chance: 55%

Pitcher: Clayton Kershaw (SP)

Although he’s having trouble staying healthy at the moment, you might as well start making the HOF bust of Clayton Kershaw now. His postseason stats certainly don’t wow anyone (4–7, 4.55 ERA), but his regular season stats more than make up for it. 7 All Star games, 3 Cy Youngs, NL MVP Award, and a Gold Glove to boot. He’s got a career 2.34 ERA with 2086 K’s and 59.1 WAR. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where the 29 year-old Kershaw doesn’t make the HOF. He’s the greatest post-steroid pitcher, and the best pitcher we’ve seen since Greg Maddux.

HOF Chance: 90%
