On Love and Life’s Paradox

Elevated and dropped

Gained and forfeited

Tossed and turned

Ignited and burned

Skyscraper of questions

Roaming each floor

Knocking on each door

To find answers that remain unknown

Searching for a homogeneous singularity

In the paradox of duality

Faced with the reality

Of life and love’s complexity

“If it doesn’t destroy you, it’s not love”

“If it is destroying you it is not love “

“Sometimes love is not enough”

“All you need is love”

“When you love someone, you become one”

“An individual in a state of fusion with one’s partner is diagnosed with dependent personality disorder. “

“Follow your heart”

“Don’t let your emotions cloud your judgement”

“You attract what you are”

“Opposites attract and likes repel”

“Primary love is narcissistic”

“Love is unconditional”

“Love is suffering”

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”

“If you don’t despise the one you love, how will you know its love?”

“When you love someone, you love all of them”

The discrepancies in the definitions of love

Allude to the polarity of what human existence is consistent of

We survive on two drives

Eros and Thanatos

Life Instincts and Death instincts

We seek life by quenching thirst, feeding hunger, and satisfying pleasure

We are vitalized by love and cooperation

We desire death and manifest it by inflicting self-destruction

We are in pursuit of annihilation by exerting violence and aggression

The ones who listen, hear riddling voices in their heads

Some frightening, dispiriting, paralyzing, cementing them to their beds

Others reassuring, motivating, energizing, inspiring them for life instead

Metamorphosing their states, their rotten skins they shed

With love and hate, they struggle in pain

With destruction and reconstruction, they’re victorious in gain

We identify with our aggressor, thus love the one we hate

We identify with our aggressor, thus serve ourselves as bait

We sharpen the teeth griding our skins

We bury ourselves in the graves of our sins

We burn with the flames of passionate intensity

We fall like ashes with the rise of apathy

We lose ourselves in search of the other

We reach for our dreams that hover

We plead for freedom from the ones holding us in captivity

Only to see that they are the mirror projecting our duality

Only when we look into their eyes do we realize

That we are the prisoner and the warden in disguise
