Throwing Stones

When we look out in the world, we see so much wrong. We try and think of the perfect blog, video, or quirky ‘status update’, hoping that we can perfectly edify the world with our words.

Sure, there are a lot of ‘fixers’ (like myself), who see an issue, and we will ponder it for weeks, trying to see from every angle until we just know what will solve it all.

I sometimes think upon the perfect outreach, or antidote that can just solve all of the worlds problems, but in some way or form, I know that it would just fall short.

There are so many personalities in this world that there is not just one simple quick fix to get us all agreeing and loving each other again. There’s just not, so get it out of your head (pessimistic much?).

Wrong.

There is one solution. And sometimes it’s the easiest one that’s most looked over.

Jesus. We give them Jesus.

But not like you may think. It’s not just saying your basic prayers, going to church, etc. it’s so much more than that.

Ok, so how do we give this world, Jesus? I’m thinking, ok, what kind of outreach can really bring the most Jesus? What can I really profoundly share in a good and quick status update that will get my point across?

So then I start to think, ok, let’s LOOK at Jesus. Cause who would know more about him than him, and where can I find more about him than in the Bible?

So I let my mind playback all the stories I’ve heard of Him as a kid, and I began to reflect on how He treated people, and not just the ‘good’ people, but the people who were or had really messed up.

The woman caught in adultery. Like straight up, caught. Like, she can’t lie her way out of it, there’s probably a facebook live stream of her accusers walking in the room, with 1.3 million views, “haha” faces, and shares. She’s caught.

What does Jesus do? (WDJD) 😑

He grabs his smart phone, jumps in the comments and attacks this woman, and gives his .5 cents on how she’s nasty, she’ll always be nasty, and she’s a bad mom, and she deserves to get caught, and joins in the world bashing this woman until his whole afternoon is ate up with this woman he’ll never even meet.

*Spoiler Alert* (90's moment)

NOT!

If we want to give the world Jesus, let’s look at what He DID do, or what He might do today.

Hold his tongue (step away from the iPhone),

take the woman by the hand (pray for her) and remember that we’ve all messed up and need buckets full of mercy and grace to even make it a single day.

I realize in the Bible that it says that Jesus got down and wrote in the sand, and then stands and says, let he that is without sin, cast the first stone, and all the accusers one by one dropped their stones and left. Not one of them could even throw a pebble. No one on earth alive today could either. The only perfect one was Jesus, and throwing a stone was the furthest thing from his mind.

We have got to stop throwing stones at each other. Where is it going to ultimately get us, but bruised and bloodied ourselves.

All hate breeds is more hate. All distain and malice grows is sour, inedible fruit.

WHAT IF we start encouraging people we don’t really agree with? WHAT IF we love them and rain down compassion on them? WHAT IF we give someone a chance who doesn’t look or act like us?

Hm. That’s a fancy little unicorn ya got there, Jessica! Ha!

I’ve seen the effects of hate, and ill-will for too long. Jesus loved a woman who was straight caught in sin. And HE didn’t even wish her wrong, or rub it in her face. What are the chances that we are completely missing it?

Isn’t love a train we can all get on board with? Even if you don’t yet believe in God, what can’t be changed through love? If you heap up some grace on a person, how much more is that grace gonna be poured back over you? Luke 6:38- it’s a promise from God that if you give, it will be given to you- with the same measure that you used. If you give someone a little grace, you’ll get a little grace when you’re the one that needs it. In the same breathe, if you give a lot of grace, it will be given back to you in large amounts!

All of us, at some point, or maybe lots of points will need grace! If you want a huge plate of grace served up to you, that’s what you need to be cookin’ and serving when you’re the one in the kitchen!

I’ll let you in on a secret…

God is love. And He loves you. Who am I to not do the same?
