Jonathan Dos Santos Could Be Going To LA… Just Not Right Now

Many in the American press were reporting about Villarreal midfielder and Mexican international Jonathan Dos Santos looking to make a reunion with his brother in Los Angeles.

That is in part true, there was an official bid made by Los Angeles Galaxy, but Villarreal have no plans to let the 26-year-old go anywhere.

I spoke to sources close to Villarreal and to the player and they have all coincided in saying that it would be “very difficult to pull off” at the moment. Jonathan is a vital part of Fran Escribá’s side. Dos Santos is a bonafide starter and the Yellow Submarine are doing fine. More importantly, as of the moment this article is being written, the Spanish side currently find themselves competing in three different tournaments and can ill afford to lose any player right now.

The only way for Los Angeles to get him is to pay off his €20 million release clause. Jonathan earns more than a €1 million a year in salary. That part should not be a major issue for the MLS side to cover.

So will the deal happen? Eventually. Just not right now, let’s revisit this come summertime.
