The comment about Google+ is interesting — if it’s not just sharing but engagement that’s providing an uplift in terms of search ranking, then this strategy will be most effective for those whose audience is actually on G+. The example quoted falls into exactly the category I would expect to have success with G+ as it’s still a place where tech people hang out, but businesses in many other sectors, I suggest, wouldn’t see the same return on effort here.
