As former English major, I get the satirical intent here. Identity politics has some issues, which I think a lot of people are aware of.
History is indeed full of various groups of various colours/ethnicities treating each other poorly, to put it mildly. It is important to remember that, and to be good students of history in general.
But I think we also all need to try to be better. And part of being better includes not being automatically defensive about our part (that is, the legacy we have inherited) in the whole mess. We have to realize what happened in the past, so we can learn and hopefully improve upon the human condition in the future.
