Not commenting on the original incident because I lost track of the thread of the convo at a certain point – but I just wanted to back up your point generally, in terms of expressing opinions on social media.
I often see the following “pattern” occur on social media platforms: Person A expresses an opinion. Others take offence or object to the opinion in some way. Person A takes offence that other people disagree with them, saying that the others cannot handle “differences of opinion” (or are trying to silence them or shame them etc). The irony of this reaction is usually lost on Person A.
The crucial point being that if you are arguing that differences of opinion be allowed, then that still includes people who disagree with your own opinion. You (the general you) don’t get to express yourself then try to shut everyone down. It does not work like that.
I am not sure why I see this pattern repeated so often on social media, but dang is it frustrating to witness. In short: Everyone gets to have an opinion, but that also means anyone has a right to have an opinion about those opinions.
