Really like the perspective you provide, as someone who obviously engages in maths (sorry, I’m British, I could never bring myself to refer to just math) at significantly higher level than most.
Why reduce teaching to testable criteria that simply replicate computer operations? What test could demonstrate the ability to think out side the box and, for example, dream up the infrastructure required to communicate with forgotten space stations?
I wrote an article earlier this year, reflecting on a period in my teaching career when I was trying prove the value of all learning experiences, not just those demonstrated through test scores.
