Third Generation SHS.An option to get the Universal Energy Access in Latam

Promoted by the World Bank, Fundación Alimentaris and Energética, experts from Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Perú and Spain discussed during two days ( October, 4 and 5)in a workshop in Salta(Argentina), the use of third generation solar home systems( 3GSHS) to electrify the remote and dispersed households in Latam.

The conclusion was that the 3GSHS have significant advantages over the now used second generation of SHS from the easy use, light weight, long live and environmental points of view.Experiences in México ( ACCIONA Microenergy Foundation) with 7.500 systems in Oaxaca, or more recently, in Argentina ( Fundación Alimentaris)or Bolivia ( Energética)show the user's high acceptance degree. This systems seems to be appropiated for low income people located in remote and dispersed communities.

In 2013, during the International Conference on Universal Energy Access in Lima (Peru),I promoted the change of the actual rural electrification paradigm focused in 2GSHS. Just in 2016, the 3GSHS it seems to be a viable and atractive option for countries with a high electrification rate, who is the case in most Latam countries.

The PERMER II in Argentina has a good opportunity to expand the use of 3GSHS. Like in Bolivia. In Peru, ACCIONA Microenergy, is developing a pilot with 3GSHS in the Amazon region, and the MINEM is promoting a draft of the standard/recomendation for 3GSHS. The 7.500 3GSHS in Oaxaca is a good experiene to expand to other mexican States. The near future will show us more projects based on this technology
