What does self-growth mean to you? To me, self-growth is a process in which you recognize something occurring in your current life situation and make changes to your behavior, beliefs, ideas, or skills to become a better person. Everyone must experience self-growth in their lifetime. This process occurs at various ages and stages, each presenting unique challenges.

What is self-growth?

“Self-growth is an intrinsic process in which you develop and expand your abilities. Self-growth can have positive implications for your career and personal life, as it helps you achieve your full potential.”

Indeed, as I reflect on my life, I see that I am continually progressing. My journey began with a major in food science, which led to a job as a food quality controller after college. Initially, everything appeared satisfactory. However, over time, I sensed a growing desire for something more, something beyond my current role.

This longing for change led me to make a bold decision: I quit my job, ventured out of my comfort zone, and embarked on further studies in Canada. This transition marked a pivotal moment in my life, driven by a relentless desire to challenge myself and exceed my limits. It’s a step-by-step journey, where maintaining a positive attitude becomes indispensable in conquering obstacles, even when results don’t meet our expectations.

Why Self-Growth Is Important?

“Self-growth can be directed toward intellectual, physical, or psychological development.”

The key point is to achieve your goals and become a better person in your life, regardless of the path you choose or the strategies you use. For instance, if you want to improve your English, you might decide to go to an English-speaking country like Canada.

First of all, you need motivation and clear goals — what is the purpose of going to this place? Is it to speak English like a native, advance your career, or make new friends? Secondly, you must cultivate the courage within yourself. Living in a new country is not always easy, and you may encounter situations you haven’t faced before. Finally, you take action because you don not want to remain the same. You want to change.

Throughout this process, you gradually come to realize things you’ve never felt or discovered before including your strengths and weaknesses. You grow and mature, which leads to a shift in your perspective on the world from your previous beliefs.

How could we do on Self-Growth Plan?

If you have a sense of self-improvement, today’s you is different from yesterday. It affects the way you perceive things, how you act, where you live, and the people you meet.

As mentioned earlier, you need to ask yourself questions to understand what you truly want on this journey, and then take action.

  1. What is your objective?
  2. Ask yourself ‘why.’
  3. Set goals and break them into smaller steps.
  4. Celebrate each milestone for yourself.

The main point is to record the steps you take every day. After one month, you can observe the changes from then to now.

Thank you for taking the time; I hope you’ve gained something from this.

“Becoming is better than being. The fixed mindset does not allow people the luxury of becoming. They have to already be.” ― Carol Dweck
