The following is a breakdown of each character as they are introduced in each novel, and will be updated as I read through the series. Certain Characters will be re-visited as their characters change.

1.Vector Prime:

New Republic (The Good Guys)

Anakin Solo: Third child of Han and Leia, Anakin is fifteen at the outset of the invasion. He’s pretty much the only Jedi who understands the risk posed by the Yuuzhan Vong, and one of the few Jedi who is not hung up on philosophical issues in the first half of the series.

Jacen Solo: second oldest of the Solo Children (by a few minutes) and one of the two Solo Twins, Jacen is Luke’s protege. He’s also, for vast swaths of the series, the absolute most annoying character in the whole thing. Jacen is an idealist and a philosopher, two things that make him largely passive against the Yuuzhan Vong and holier-than-thou towards most of his fellow Jedi.

A brief description of Jacen Solo

Jaina Solo: The other one of the Solo Twins, and eldest of the group, Jaina inherited Han’s piloting skills and is generally in line with the Leia/Padme/Rey/Lady-from-Rogue-One school of female characters.

Kyp Durron: One of the first new Jedi, Kyp is the leader of a particular kind of Jedi. He’s not exactly an antagonistic presence, but is usually involved in the escalation of situations, especially in the first half of the series. Basically, Kyp serves as a vessel by which the plot can develop.

Mara Jade Skywalker: Jedi, former assassin, Luke Skywalker’s wife. At the opening of The New Jedi Order, she is sick with a mysterious illness.

Danni Quee: A scientist at a remote outpost whose mission it is to monitor for extragalactic life as part of a wider scientific origin. Danni is a minor character but shows up in important places throughout the rest of the series.

Yuuzhan Vong (the bad guys)

Nom Anor: Oh man. Nom Anor is an executor of the Yuuzhan Vong, which means that he is tasked with sabotaging and diverting the attention of the New Republic in order to facilitate the invasion. He’s a troll, a schemer, an imposter, wholly self-interested. Easily the most compelling character in the whole series.

Yomin Carr: An agent of Nom Anor. Dies in this story.

2.Dark Tide I: Onslaught

The Jedi:

Ganner Rhysode: A Jedi who came of age with Jacen and Jaina. Ganner is arrogant and subscribes to the aggressive mentality of the new generation of Jedi. He’s also powerful and described as handsome repeatedly. I imagined a dumber Robert Pattinson every time.

Corran Horn: One of the first Jedi to appear after the events of Return of the Jedi. Corran is a skilled pilot as a result of his force powers and flew for Rogue Squadron in the war against the Empire. He trusts Luke and backs him in the power struggles of the Jedi.

The New Republic:

Borsk Fey’lya: Chief of State for the New Republic. Self-serving and ambitious, Borsk spent the twenty years of time in between the movies and the books busy backstabbing, conniving, and otherwise slithering his way to the top, arriving just in time for the war with the Yuuzhan Vong.

Elegos A’Kla: A New Republic senator. Elegos is a pacifist, and also a close ally of Leia, the Jedi, and parts of the New Republic Military. He is especially close with Corran Horn

Traest Kre’fey: Commander of the New Republic cruiser Ralroost, Kre’fey is a Bothan related to Fey’lya and the first admiral to realize the threat posed by the Yuuzhan Vong.

Gavin Darklighter: Leader of Rogue Squadron at the outset of the war, Gavin is the cousin of Luke Skywalker’s friend Biggs. Unlike Biggs, Gavin never had to fly against Darth Vader, and was thus spared a grisly death.

The Yuuzhan Vong

Shedao Shai: Shai is the Yuuzhan Vong commander behind all of the actions of the Yuuzhan Vong in this story (and the next), though he’s only introduced by name at the end of this novel (seriously, ban duologies).

3.Dark Tide II: Ruin

The Jedi

Daeshara’cor: A Twi’lek Jedi who goes rogue over her concerns that Luke isn’t doing anything to combat the Yuuzhan Vong (which is pretty much true) and goes on a hunt for old superweapons the Emperor may have left lying around.

The Imperial Remnant:

Gilad Pellaeon: Imperial Grand Admiral and highest ranking member of what’s left of the Imperial Military following the twenty odd years of war with the Rebellion/New Republic. Proud, reasonable, and well versed in politics as well as warfare.

Jagged Fel: Captain of a Chiss expeditionary unit (the Chiss are aliens allied with the Empire, don’t worry about it) and scion of two of the best starfighter pilot dynasties. He’s an exceptional pilot, and he knows it. He’s also described repeatedly as being attractive, and it’s clear he knows that too. It’s almost like he’s modeled after someone…but who could it be?

4.Agents of Chaos I: Hero’s Trial

The New Republic:

Roa: A seemingly ageless smuggler friend of Han’s, Roa gets the party moving in this installment.

Major Showolter: New Republic Intelligence officer. Pretty nondescript fellow.

Viqi Shesh: A powerful New Republic senator, and one serving on the intelligence committee. Throws in with the Yuuzhan Vong, and acts as a mole, saboteur, and spy for the Yuuzhan Vong

Droma: A Ryn male, Droma is a resourceful survivor and gets swept up in the path of Han.

The Yuuzhan Vong

Harrar: A member of the Yuuzhan Vong clergy. A priest, but one with large ambitions.

Elan: Another member of the clergy, Elan is (as is very often pointed out) extremely beautiful. She is chosen to lead an assassination attempt on the Jedi. It doesn’t work and she dies in this one.

Vergere: Not a Yuuzhan Vong, but one of the aliens that Yuuzhan Vong agents picked up in their initial reconnaissance of the galaxy something like fifty years prior to the events of the story. Is half pet, half servant to Elan. Or is she???

5.Agents Of Chaos II: Jedi Eclipse

The Jedi:

Wurth Skidder: Brash and headstrong, Skidder is one of the younger Jedi and advocates highly for action, for taking the fight to the agressor. Has a high opinion of himself. In a previous novel he was described as sniffing a lot, though that tic appears to be gone in this one. He dies after miscalculating and surrendering to the Yuuzhan Vong.

The New Republic:

Thracken Sal-Solo: Han’s cousin. A separatist from Han’s planet Corellia. He’s one of the most annoying characters ever created in the expanded universe.

The Yuuzhan Vong

Nas Choka: A short Yuuzhan Vong with huuuuuuuge legs (seriously, that’s how he’s described), he’s a brilliant tactician and is shrewd at games of misdirection. Despite the title of Supreme Commander of the Yuuzhan Vong, he’s the second highest ranking member of the Yuuzhan Vong military, behind this guy:

Tsavong Lah: The Yuuzhan Vong Warmaster, which is kind of like five star general rolled into secretary of defense. Lah is the primary antagonist of the New Republic in general, the Jedi in particular, and Jacen Solo even more specifically, though he appears but briefly in this one.

Other Affiliations:

Borga The Hutt: Leader of the crime syndicates and the nominal ruler of the collection of planets outside of The New Republic’s jurisdiction known as Hutt Space.

Prince Isolder: Prince of the Hapes Consortium, a matriarchal society of planets founded by space pirates also outside of The New Republic’s jurisdiction. Isolder is a former suitor to Leia. He’s a walking meatbag of machismo.
