For a bank: I really love Capital One 360, and I think their mobile deposit limit is $5K, so you’d be able to deposit it even if there’s not a Capital One branch near you.

For the 401K question, do you have an IRA (either regular or Roth) that you could contribute to? My 401K has pretty limited options with higher fees than I’d like; if your old 401K is the same, opening an IRA with Vanguard or another low-fee option might make more sense.
