I’m persistently single and have never had a relationship serious enough that we got to this point, but I find how couples handle money to be so fascinating! Most of my friends who are married or living together seem to follow this approach as well — joint account for shared expenses plus individual accounts to allow for personal spending. I also know a couple that has been together for 10 years and hasn’t combined their finances at all, which seems like it would be complicated, especially since they just bought a house together and are looking to have kids soon, but I guess if it works for them, it works.
