This article is filled with misinformation. And again, it places personal blame on people who diet and regain weight. 98% of the population regains the weight within 2 months to 5 years. And it’s NOT because they have no will-power. It’s nature’s method of preventing starvation and bringing you back to a higher weight set point. And btw, that…
Besides the hatred of fat, what must be addressed factually is the misguided beliefs that being fat means that you are sick or will get a disease that will kill you. People use that as an excuse for fat-shaming. It’s just that- an excuse for their ignorant beliefs of “everyone knows” that you too can be thin if you just eat less and exercise more.
I have not read the book. But I have read PLENTY of books, articles and heard speakers talk about dieting and weight loss. It seems that this is just a different version of blaming a fat person and considering that becoming fat is a character flaw. It sounds like Williamson and those other Diet Gurus believe that staying fat is a choice that declares…
I was so happy for the “plot twist” with a more positive diagnosis! None of us have the answer for when our end will come- we live as though there is no end. It’s so important to have the important conversations with our loved ones- no matter what our age, or health.
Interesting article- but the photo??!! Walking while reading on your phone? Mindless walking has made people walk into telephone poles, into traffic, off cliffs!
The best benefit of walking is stress relief- being in the moment, letting your mind focus on your surroundings. Otherwise walking become just another “must do” exercise to be avoided.
Watching violence anesthetizes the viewer’s shocked emotions in response to watching death. I believe that all of the violence in movies and the media has created our overly violent society. It creates copycat killers.
I wonder if the number of mass shootings would go down if they were not shown over and over again in the…
Lexi- thanks for taking the time to write a response to my opinion piece. To me the bottom line is: if men aren’t wearing clothes that expose parts of their bodies that are sexualized (like women’s breasts) why do women do it? You can be proud of your body without having to overly expose and flaunt it to the general public.
I was a little younger than the Second-Wave feminists. But I took to it like a fish to water. I had been affected by the double standards for boys and girls growing up. I loved sports, but had to watch my brother play from the sidelines. He was lousy at it, and I was much more athletic. It didn’t matter.
Your article is correct in many ways. The only problem is that people DO eat when they are not hungry as a response to stress. So you can’t just tell people not to eat- you need to give them a mechanism to stop their stress that is motivating them to eat when they are not hungry. That’s why so many of these “intuitive eating” plans fail.
“Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.” Oscar Wilde
If you have that mean streak in you, the internet is a perfect place to let it out- where no one knows who you actually are. It’s a mask.
