Watching violence anesthetizes the viewer’s shocked emotions in response to watching death. I believe that all of the violence in movies and the media has created our overly violent society. It creates copycat killers.
I wonder if the number of mass shootings would go down if they were not shown over and over again in the media. But of course, the First Amendment advocates would scream about it.
To me, all of the violence foisted upon by people in practically every movie, TV show, and even in photos of violence on social media, is like allowing someone to yell “FIRE” in a crowded theatre.
I’d like to see a psychological profile of people who avoid watching these various forms of violence vs. those who flock to see it. I bet there are significant differences.
