Week 3: Wednesday

Weight: 67KG

Sleep: 5:55

I’m catching up here so don’t go too hard on me!

Wednesday morning calls for a long run, and after the threshold pace of Tuesday at RDC, combined with the commute back to Essex, there is isn’t a great deal of time for sleep. This week there was no exception.

I managed to get out of bed and slap some almond butter on a bagel through my bleary morning eyes, then it was time to head out. Almost on autopilot I took my usual 14 miler route up towards Southend, and out around the A127, trying to take in some nice gradual climbs along the way and using the downhill start to my advantage as I shook off my lack of sleep. I probably should have a nailed a coffee before I set out but it was too late for that now. The morning was already surprisingly hot but my heart rate remained steady and the pace felt comfortable, I was feeling strong!

The second half of the run took my back along the seafront, past the pier and beyond until I cut back into Leigh. It was a real boost to see so many people out this early in the morning, encouraging to know that my insanity hasn’t reached dizzy new heights just yet. I rounded out 14 miles in a comfortable 1:49 and headed into work.

The downside to most Wednesdays is the long hours I knock out in the kitchen, it’s certainly not an ideal recovery from 2 hard days running but I’m sure there’s something to be said for staying on your feet over a 13 hour day.

I’ve been struggling with the quality of my sleep recently, and so I picked up some Sominax from Boots in the hope that it would send me off to sleep. Expect a report in the morning.
