Can you explain why this is an overkill ?

Hey psankar that was my earlier rationale — prevent fraudulent signups. After having put the service out for a couple of months now, we realize that you have to work hard to get people to see and use your product, especially early on :) Furthermore, verification can be done post-facto, say within a week of signup. You don’t want to send people to check their email because they might just see something urgent and drop off your app. At least for our use-case, this made much more sense.
