Paul, thanks for sharing. Although I have been fortunate to not grow up disenfranchised, I grew up in an area and with a family that mostly was. That community (rural PA) and some of my family (father and others) voted for Trump. Yes, racism, sexism, nationalism all had their play, but their anger based on the feeling of being abandoned was dominant.
