Thanks Gabe Kleinman and the @Medium team for shining a spotlight on the global health and development sector! There’s a lot of amazing work being done by caring and determined organizations, communities, and individuals. A platform for folks to share and discuss their experiences, and learn together, is absolutely essential to solving the toughest development problems and finding the best solutions.
We love that The Development Set will be asking “What are the biggest successes in global health that are hiding in plain sight?” Our experience is that big success can come from simple origins. We work in knowledge management (KM), a field of global health that is quietly changing the way information gets shared in healthcare settings, particularly in low- and middle-income countries where geography, resources, and access to communication technology can create an isolating work environment. In this context, KM professionals are problem solvers, figuring out how to create professional communities, spark innovation, and design a seamless system of knowledge access and exchange, in spite of these environmental challenges. Like other behind-the-scenes fields of work, KM is a powerful force for change — one that operates at its best when you don’t even notice it’s there.
Last year, K4Health found Medium as a platform to share our experiences as KM practitioners. The posts on our publication The Exchange are personal and varied. Our goal is to create a space to talk about how KM can be used in health programs to improve health outcomes. We’re just getting started, and we love feedback. We hope you’ll check us out!
Best,
Nandini Jayarajan ,Co-Editor of The Exchange, and Anne Kott of the K4Health Communications Team
