Facebook Is For Old People?

How the media outlet dedicated for Ivy League students grew from appealing to 18–24 year olds to 35 and up.

I remember when I opened my facebook account to in 2007, MySpace was on its way out and social media needed a hero. Thus came Mark Zuckerberg and the idea he stole from the Winklevoss twins. At its very core “The Facebook” had a massive appeal to everyone over the age of 13.

Facebook no longer granted us listing Top 10 friends, cool profile backgrounds, basic HTML knowledge, music playlist, etc. All of these things plus more Facebook took away from us. Yet still it has withstood the test of time.

Out of all of the social media websites that have ever been created only seven matter those are: Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest and Blogger/WordPress. But in reality those top five are the ones still granting us daily visits.

In the very beginning Facebook presented us with a “How are you doing…” and a means to read other people’s statuses but MySpace granted us so much more, how did Facebook survive?

Facebook survived by providing us with a clean social network, fun games, chances to see how people are doing without having to ask them directly. Pop on for five minutes stalk a family member or friend and not have them know you cared.

Fast forward to 2016, the biggest group on Facebook is no longer 18–24 year olds but adults. Mature adults. It is used as a massive tool in marketing. It stays alive by growing with its audience. At its very core the Facebook profile has not advanced but the technology behind it has grown exponentially. Still it is all about the status, which no longer goes in chronological order but by order of appeal. 2016, Facebook grants us Facebook live and Messenger bots. Again giving us a means to easily communicate with the masses.

Hardware. Advanced virtual reality software. Providing Internet to those less fortunate. Plus more. Facebook is no longer for the young folks but for those who have their act together. Yes some still fall by providing you with a daily dose of stupidity and ignorance but with over a billion users there is bound to be plenty of those.
