And this young woman is just ‘ mildly overweight’, a much lower BMI than really obese, just sayin’. (but 70% of the junk food nation overweight & obese population was created over the last 30 years) Back in the 80’s I noticed there was a total disconnect between average looking but sweet secretaries in high tech companies, and the socially inept brilliant engineers who make $150K+ (big money then) who spent time in role playing games, computer clubs, had a second bedroom full of parts for motherboards, and plastic toys…ate those jerky meat sticks and Moon pies from machines, sugary sodas by the case, and read Playboy,Hustler, and drooled over other vivid color photoshopped girls thinking they were available to them. So of course the poor girls at work who STILL, despite ’70s feminism’, looked forward to courtship, and romance, and marriage had no chance to compete with men’s unrealistic expectations of a gorgeous, easy lay. There were MANY ‘socializing’ classes held in hotel ballrooms to teach SV singles (mostly young males) how to talk to women. Sure, the women wanted a rich engineer..so the disconnect was there for them too. Take him as he was, and retrain him into a husband? Fewer marriages happened begining then I think. Many more social factors led to this disconnect between men and women- relaxed group dates vs old style singles dating was less commitment, just hang around without pursuing her. Some matured and paired off..the rest did not, and the “Women over 30 will more likely be killed by a terrorist than to marry” articles appeared. I am sure it was different in the Midwest…but this is what I obseved in Silicon Vally.
