Free speech is not perfect, but I’d rather have that as an ideal, than not. Am I protected by the First Amendment? Hell no. I have no illusions about that. Reason: I am no threat to the political or economic establishment.
Should I stand on a kerb with a picket and two friends advocating the rights of a chicken to not be fried, any cop can dispute the fact that I have constitutional rights of free speech and lawful assembly. That’s when one moves from promises to reality.
